Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Playa del Carmen received the National Award for Good Municipal Governance 2025 in the “Inclusive City” category.
The award, presented by the Good Government Institute, recognized the “Inclusion Without Limits” project, an initiative led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado’s administration aimed at strengthening inclusive public policies and social participation.
The National Award for Good Municipal Governance 2025 honors outstanding local leaders and administrations across Mexico. The “Inclusive City” category solidified Playa del Carmen’s status as a municipality promoting an inclusive social agenda.
The award distinguishes local governments for implementing best practices, administrative innovation, and public policies that generate positive impact among citizens. In this edition, the “Inclusion Without Limits” project stood out for promoting actions focused on equal opportunities, social inclusion, and strengthening public policies for vulnerable sectors.
The Good Government Institute organizes the award in coordination with various organizations and institutions specializing in public management and governance. During the recognition event, organizers emphasized that these awards aim to highlight and replicate successful experiences in municipal governments by fostering professionalization of public service, transparency, and public policy design centered on population well-being.
Mayor Estefanía Mercado received the recognition in Playa del Carmen from the municipal Youth Director, Gabriel Álvarez, alongside Councilwoman Matilde Carrillo.
Mayor Mercado has emphasized that Playa del Carmen places people at the center of decision-making.
