Playa del Carmen to Set Official Mototaxi Fares in Coming Months

Officials and mototaxi representatives meeting in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Officials will define official fares for mototaxi services in Playa del Carmen in the coming months, the city’s Mobility Commission announced.

Renán Santos Morales, the councilor who chairs the commission, said current rates charged by mototaxi drivers across the municipality are not official because the fare schedule is still pending. He noted that authorities are conducting a study that has already defined permitted operating zones.

Santos Morales said officials have held several meetings with the Traffic Department and the Quintana Roo State Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo), making significant progress toward regularizing the service. For example, they determined that mototaxis can operate throughout the Puerto Aventuras district, while in the municipal seat they will only serve the Palmas 1, Villas del Sol, Guadalupana, Riviera Maya, and Cristo Rey neighborhoods, along with adjacent areas.

The councilor added that authorities are also finalizing how to issue operating permits. The city government is working with mototaxi unions to reach a consensus that satisfies all parties involved.

“We are very advanced on this issue. We are carrying out very coordinated work with Traffic, Imoveqroo, the unions, and the City Council,” Santos Morales concluded.
