Russian tourist assaulted by taxi driver in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A Russian tourist was assaulted, robbed, and physically thrown from a moving taxi by a driver from the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río union in the Ejido Sur neighborhood, south of the city.

The incident occurred on 5th Street South, between 60th and 65th Avenues, where residents heard cries for help coming from the street. Upon noticing an injured woman, they called for support through the 911 emergency number.

Paramedics arrived minutes later and provided pre-hospital care to the woman, who was experiencing a nervous crisis and had various injuries on different parts of her body. According to the initial assessment, the wounds were caused by blows and from being thrown from a vehicle that was either moving or had recently stopped.

According to testimony provided to authorities, the woman stated that moments earlier she was traveling in a city taxi when the driver physically assaulted her, robbed her of her belongings, and then forced her to exit the vehicle by throwing her onto the street.

The victim indicated she did not have further details about the vehicle, such as the taxi number, license plates, or specific characteristics that would allow for its identification.

Municipal police officers arrived at the scene following the emergency report and gathered the corresponding information. Subsequently, they implemented a search operation in the surrounding area with the aim of locating the alleged perpetrator; however, the mobilization did not yield positive results due to the lack of information to identify the involved vehicle.

The woman was assisted on-site and was recommended to file the corresponding complaint with the competent authorities to pursue legal follow-up on the events. Residents of the neighborhood noted that this type of incident is not common in the area, though they emphasized the importance of immediately reporting any emergency situation.

Authorities continue with the investigation to clarify what occurred and determine responsibilities, while maintaining the call to citizens to provide any information that could contribute to locating the driver and the involved vehicle.
