Playa del Carmen Achieves Top Ten Public Services Ranking

Mayor Estefanía Mercado supervising public services operations in Villas del Sol neighborhood

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Mayor Estefanía Mercado recently supervised the megajornada of public services in Villas del Sol, as part of the Chambamanía program.

During the tour, she emphasized that “our heroines and heroes of Public Services continue doing their work every day: cleaning streets, removing junk, and keeping neighborhoods in order.”

The mayor stressed that for Playa del Carmen to truly appear clean and orderly, citizen awareness is essential, since leaving furniture or debris on public roads directly affects the urban image.

In figures, the end of 2025 left a historic record in urban cleaning: the municipal government managed to collect more than 26,000 tons of urban solid waste during December, one of the months with the highest waste generation.

Estefanía Mercado has emphasized that her commitment “is not from the desk, it is from the territory.” In June 2025, she publicly recognized the effort of workers from the Secretariat of Public Services, who managed to position Playa del Carmen as the third best city in the country in terms of public services.

That national recognition reflects the operational capacity and discipline of the municipal brigades. In addition to cleaning, the administration has strengthened areas of pothole repair, lighting, maintenance of public spaces, and environmental sanitation.
