Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Mayor Estefanía Mercado inspected the ongoing repaving and comprehensive rehabilitation of Avenida 10 Norte, a key route for mobility and economic activity in the city.
During the visit, the mayor assessed the progress of the work and reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to public works that respond to the municipality’s rapid growth and the needs of residents.
“We now have three-meter-wide sidewalks that prioritize pedestrians, new lighting along the entire stretch for greater safety, and a completed tree-planting process: we have more trees, not fewer,” Mercado said during the tour, which was also attended by Infrastructure and Public Works Secretary Dorys Ake.
Mercado explained that stormwater drainage wells have also been constructed to allow water to follow its natural course during the rainy season, helping to prevent flooding.
“We’ve added new signage and four pedestrian crossings to make crossing the avenue safer,” she added.
Avenida 10 Norte is a vital artery for workers, students, business owners, and visitors. Its rehabilitation will directly impact approximately 60,000 residents and generate indirect benefits for more than 400,000 people in the municipality.
The mayor emphasized that the project is not just about repaving but involves a comprehensive intervention to ensure durable, safe, and functional infrastructure.
The work includes improvements to the drainage network in coordination with Aguakan, as well as complementary utility work by Gas Natural.
The investment for this first phase amounts to just over 43 million pesos, sourced from the Municipal Strengthening Contribution Fund (FORTAMUN).
