Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Federal, state, and municipal authorities launched the Héroes Paisano program in Playa del Carmen on Wednesday to provide security, guidance, and support for Mexican nationals returning to the country during the Easter holiday season.
The program, coordinated by the National Migration Institute, aims to assist Mexicans living abroad who travel through or to Quintana Roo during peak vacation periods. Officials activated the initiative at the ADO bus terminal in downtown Playa del Carmen, setting up information booths and deploying personnel to help travelers.
Orlando Lazo Rivera, head of the National Migration Institute’s office in Quintana Roo, led the launch event. He emphasized the importance of maintaining an institutional presence at key transit points to ensure travelers receive information about procedures, their rights, and channels for reporting issues.
Maria de los Angeles Sibaja Malpica, head of Playa del Carmen’s Migrant Assistance Unit, represented the municipal government. Osiris de Jesus Ceballos Diaz, director of the Tourism Police, attended on behalf of the Public Security Department.
National Guard officers and traffic police also joined the preventive deployment for the holiday period, when visitor numbers surge at land terminals and highways across the state.
The program focuses on providing safe transit conditions for returning nationals, particularly along routes used by long-distance buses, private vehicles, and tourist transport. It includes distributing contact numbers, offering advice on reporting irregularities, and providing institutional support for incidents related to documentation, transit, or transportation services.
The ADO terminal in Playa del Carmen serves as a major transportation hub, especially during holidays, handling arrivals from central, southern, and southeastern Mexico, with connections to Cancún, Tulum, Mérida, and Chetumal.
Municipal participation in the launch is part of broader inter-agency coordination during Easter, which also involves increased surveillance in tourist zones, beaches, and access roads. Authorities said information modules and preventive patrols will remain active at strategic points in the coming weeks to assist travelers during this high-mobility period.
