PLAYA DEL CARMEN, QR. – The Government Director of the City Council, Erwin Aguilar Díaz, announced that a new procedure has been activated with the main objective of regulating tow truck fees in Playa del Carmen, in order to provide greater certainty to citizens and prevent abuses in vehicle towing and storage services.
In an interview, Aguilar Díaz explained that this mechanism arises after an increase in complaints about irregularities related to tow truck fees in Playa del Carmen, including those made during traffic incidents attended by Public Safety personnel.
He emphasized that the instruction from Municipal President Estefanía Mercado was to implement a completely transparent procedure through the Transportation Department.
“This is so that citizens feel attended to and satisfied with what they are being charged. This is the main point of what citizens were complaining about,” stated the official, highlighting that the new scheme is based on a decree published in the State Official Gazette, where the concepts and applicable rates for tow truck fees in Playa del Carmen are defined.
Aguilar Díaz indicated that the central task now will be to ensure that concessionary companies operate in strict adherence to the legal framework, so that tow truck fees in Playa del Carmen match what is established in the regulations.
Finally, he detailed that Transportation Department personnel will accompany citizens during the process of releasing their vehicles, reviewing the quote issued by the company and confirming that tow truck fees in Playa del Carmen correspond to what is permitted by law.
