Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Mayor Estefanía Mercado announced the donation of four plots of land to the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) for the construction of new daycare centers, which will benefit more than 9,500 children under four years old.
The donation aims to expand childcare services in the municipality and support working families by creating safe, appropriate spaces for early childhood development.
Strategic Locations for the Centers
The new centers will be located in high-density neighborhoods including Misión de las Flores, Real Ibiza, Palmas I, and Los Olivos III, bringing services closer to areas with high demand.
Impact on Families
Mayor Mercado emphasized that this initiative will provide greater peace of mind for parents who work daily, offering reliable childcare options. “Investing in children is investing in our city’s future,” she said.
Coordination with State and Federal Governments
The project has support from the Mexican federal government and the state government of Quintana Roo, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, respectively, as part of a strategy focused on social development and family well-being.
The donation aligns with municipal efforts to strengthen public policies for childhood care and reduce gaps in access to basic services for families. The construction of these centers marks progress in Playa del Carmen’s social infrastructure amid urban growth that requires expanded service coverage.
