Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Playa del Carmen City Council, through the Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat, has denied information circulating on social networks regarding the alleged death of a person following a police pursuit that occurred after midnight in the Misión de las Flores neighborhood.
According to the official statement, the incident was recorded when a motorcycle with two occupants was traveling at excessive speed and in a negligent manner, ignoring stop indications made by police officers. During the pursuit, the driver evaded an official unit, mounted the sidewalk, and continued his escape until the motorcycle skidded in the area of the Palmas I neighborhood.
Following the incident, one of the occupants got off and took refuge in a private residence, while the driver was transferred to the Playa del Carmen General Hospital, where he received medical attention and was discharged moments later, after being found to be out of danger.
Municipal authorities reiterated that there were no fatalities and that investigations continue under the corresponding protocols.
"The Government of Playa del Carmen maintains its commitment to impartiality, adherence to the law, and the safety of the citizenry," the statement concludes.
