Tulum, Mexico — The Women’s Amateur Latin America (WALA) championship is coming to Mexico for the first time, with the spotlight not only on the players but also on its distinguished host venue. PGA Riviera Maya will serve as the luxury host for the fifth edition of the championship organized by The R&A and the ANNIKA Foundation.

Inaugurated in 2010 and located in Tulum, the premier destination in the Mexican Caribbean, this world-class golf course has quickly become one of the most prominent golf destinations in Latin America.

Its design, signed by Robert Trent Jones II, offers a unique combination of challenge, beauty, and strategy. In 2020, it became the first complex in Latin America to partner with the PGA of America, hosting the first PGA Academy in Mexico.

The course, located within the facilities of the Tulum Country Club, is distinguished by its stunning natural surroundings, natural lakes, lush tropical vegetation, and the crystalline cenotes that surround it. With a design that extends over more than 7,200 yards, PGA Riviera Maya proposes a demanding playing experience, especially from the tee, due to its narrow fairways and the precision it demands on shots to the green.

The combination of technical challenge and natural beauty makes PGA Riviera Maya the ideal setting for the Women’s Amateur Latin America, a course that will test the skills of the best amateur golfers in the region. Its international prestige backs it: it was recognized as the Best Golf Course in Mexico at the 2024 World Golf Awards and was recently distinguished in the 2025 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards.

“Hosting the WALA at PGA Riviera Maya is a source of pride and reaffirms our commitment to the development of golf through young and female talent. We are convinced that the future of this sport is built with opportunities, dedication, and vision,” said Gonzalo Pan de Soraluce, Global Head Golf Strategy of the Real Estate & Golf division of Grupo Piñero.

Since its creation, the WALA has established itself as a key platform for the best amateur golfers in Latin America, offering the winner a unique prize: invitations to compete in three Major championships of women’s professional golf—The Chevron Championship, The Amundi Evian Championship, and the AIG Women’s Open.

PGA Riviera Maya features a total of 27 holes, distributed across two spectacular courses: an 18-hole par 72 Championship Course, and an Executive 9-hole par 3 course, both integrated within the Tulum Country Club. Furthermore, it has hosted the Tulum Championship at PGA Riviera Maya on the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA TOUR Americas.

The event will feature the presence of Annika Sörenstam, one of the most important golfers in the history of the sport, and Lorena Ochoa, the best Mexican player of all time. Additionally, Clarisa Temelo, who in 2024 became the first Mexican to win the Women’s Amateur Latin America, will participate.
