PGA Riviera Maya Renovates Executive Course, Lifting Tulum’s Golf Offer

Golfers on the renovated nine-hole executive course at PGA Riviera Maya in Tulum Country Club

Tulum, Quintana Roo — PGA Riviera Maya, the golf complex at Tulum Country Club, has resurfaced its nine-hole, par-3 executive course, which has played on paspalum grass since October as part of a push to keep its sporting offer at a high standard.

The work improved the uniformity and quality of the playing surface, giving the course a more consistent experience for seasoned players and beginners alike.

“At PGA Riviera Maya we want anyone who plays here to always find the best experience, and that means continuing to raise the quality of our executive course, which now has a renovated surface and better playing conditions,” said Andrés Brictson, golf director at PGA Riviera Maya.

Golf as a Sports Tourism Draw

The renovation feeds into Tulum’s strategy of broadening its tourism offer through sports, particularly golf, a segment that has gained ground in the destination through international competitions.

Among them is the Tulum Championship of the Korn Ferry Tour, held in April at PGA Riviera Maya, along with other tournaments that have placed the complex on the golf calendar.

The executive course serves as an additional option to the championship layout and is open to the public. Its nine-hole format is designed to suit different skill levels and schedules. Advanced players can sharpen their short game, those with an hour or two can complete a round, and beginners have space to learn the rules and develop their first skills. It is also laid out so that young players can practice on a course suited to them.

Academy for Residents and Visitors

The offering is rounded out by the PGA Golf Academy, which welcomes residents and visitors and runs programs ranging from introductory lessons to high-performance training.

The renovation is part of Tulum Country Club’s effort to cement golf as one of the pillars of its sports and wellness lineup.

PGA Riviera Maya is currently the only golf course in Mexico with an alliance with the PGA of America, and it has hosted events including the Korn Ferry Tour and the Women’s Amateur Latin America, organized by The R&A and the ANNIKA Foundation. In September, the complex also hosted the second edition of an NCAA collegiate tournament, reinforcing its role as a venue for national and international competitions.

With the executive course upgrade, PGA Riviera Maya aims to widen options for players of all levels and help position Tulum as a sports tourism destination beyond its traditional sun-and-sand appeal.
