Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo state government is working to secure a direct international flight between Europe and Cozumel while strengthening air connectivity at Tulum, Governor Mara Lezama said.

Both efforts form part of the tourism agenda Lezama has discussed with federal Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

The governor said President Claudia Sheinbaum will meet with the Mundo Maya team on Thursday to address tourism development, destination promotion and air connectivity.

Lezama said her recent meetings with Rodríguez Zamora covered the Tulum airport and projects to boost tourism activity. She also cited the cost of jet fuel as one of the factors shaping the aviation outlook.

For Cozumel, she said the state is seeking a link to Europe that could use a twin-aisle aircraft. The route remains under negotiation and, if secured, would expand options for international visitors arriving on the island.

Lezama highlighted the Tulum airport’s location as an option for connectivity toward the center of the state. Talks with federal officials aim to strengthen that infrastructure and open new connections for Quintana Roo’s destinations.
