Scene of a pedestrian accident on Colosio Boulevard in Cancún

Cancún, Mexico — A second traffic tragedy occurred on Monday night in Cancún when a pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a van while attempting to cross Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard near the C5 Security Complex, one of the city’s busiest roadways.

According to initial reports, the accident occurred around 9:05 p.m. when a man tried to cross the busy thoroughfare. At that moment, a white Nissan Urvan traveling toward downtown Cancún failed to notice the pedestrian and struck him head-on, projecting him several meters until he fell violently onto the asphalt pavement.

Following the strong impact, the pedestrian died instantly and remained lying on the pavement, causing alarm among motorists traveling through the area. Police officers assigned to the C5 Security Complex, upon noticing the incident, immediately approached to provide assistance and requested an ambulance through the 911 emergency number.

Paramedics arrived at the scene minutes later, and after assessing the victim, confirmed he no longer showed vital signs, leaving them unable to save his life. Given this situation, Municipal Transit officers proceeded to cordon off the area to preserve the accident scene and facilitate forensic work.

Subsequently, personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office carried out the corresponding procedures and removed the body, which was transported to the Forensic Medical Service for the required legal formalities. Meanwhile, the driver of the Urvan was detained at the scene and taken to the forensics department for corresponding evaluations before being turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the crime of negligent homicide.

It is worth mentioning that this incident occurred just a couple of hours after another fatal accident registered near El Crucero, where a woman lost her life after being struck by two young people traveling at excessive speed on a motorcycle, highlighting a day marked by traffic violence in Cancún.
