Tulum — Dozens of travelers scheduled to fly to Felipe Ángeles International Airport were stranded on Friday afternoon at the Felipe Carrillo Puerto airport terminal due to a significant delay of a Viva Aerobús flight. The situation generated widespread annoyance among passengers, who publicized their protest through social media.
The flight, scheduled to depart at 11:45 hours, did not begin boarding at the established time. Affected passengers stated that the airline postponed the departure several times without providing specific explanations, leading to direct complaints to the company's staff.
In videos that were disseminated, passengers can be seen gathered in the waiting area, demanding clear information about the reasons for the delay.
Some individuals stated that staff from the Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office arrived at the boarding gate to document the situation and offer guidance regarding passenger rights. The Civil Aviation Law and Profeco guidelines require airlines to offer compensation when a delay exceeds four hours, through refunds, meals, or alternative travel options.
The affected users noted that this is not the first time they have reported deficiencies in the company's communication, especially since the start of commercial operations at the Tulum terminal. The lack of immediate information was one of the main reasons for dissatisfaction.
As of Friday night, Viva Aerobús had not released an official statement nor notified what actions would be taken to assist the passengers. The specific technical or logistical reason that caused the delay of the flight bound for Mexico City was also not specified.
The incident fuels criticism about air operations at the new airport, where in recent months users have reported delays and cancellations on various domestic flights. The affected passengers warned that they will continue seeking institutional support and making their complaints public to ensure service in accordance with current regulations.
