Tulum Development Continues Work Despite Legal Seals

Furniture being installed in the Adamar building of the Maiim project in Tulum

Tulum, Mexico — Despite the various irregularities surrounding the “Maiim” real estate project in Tankah Bay in Tulum, another has recently been added: They are now furnishing the interior of some apartments.

Recently, some people alerted about the placement of furniture inside the complex of up to 38 apartments. The information was later corroborated by the group Defending the Right to a Healthy Environment (DMAS), which showed various photographs that allow observation of several pieces of furniture inside.

In the images, which correspond to January 15 of this year, on the first floor, the base and mattress as well as a bathtub and mirror were placed. Meanwhile, on the rest of the floors, anti-cyclonic blinds for windows and doors as well as floors and finishes have already been installed. This represents yet another irregularity.

Illegal from the Beginning

DMAS denounced that the construction was carried out without having the federal environmental impact authorization (MIA), a mandatory requirement in ecologically sensitive areas. Despite municipal and state authorities granting land use and construction permits.

In 2025, a federal judge issued a ruling to revoke those permits and restore the affected ecosystem, arguing violations of the human right to a healthy environment and the principle of environmental prevention.

In September of last year, the State Attorney General’s Office and Profepa placed assurance seals on the Adamar building. Despite this, work continues to install windows, doors, and furnish the place.
