Mexico City — Netflix has officially announced a price increase for its subscription plans in Mexico, effective throughout 2025. This move follows a global trend in the streaming industry, where competitors such as Disney+ and Max have also recently adjusted their pricing structures. For millions of subscribers in Mexico, the change means reevaluating their entertainment budgets.

What Happened to the Basic Plan?
Netflix discontinued its Basic (ad-free, standard-definition) plan for new subscribers in 2024. Existing subscribers who still have this plan may retain it unless they switch subscriptions or cancel their accounts. However, it is no longer available for new sign-ups.
This pricing shift reinforces Netflix’s strategy of promoting its ad-supported tier as the most affordable option while positioning its ad-free plans as premium offerings. Consumers are encouraged to review their subscriptions and select the plan that best aligns with their viewing habits and budget.
