Nearly 300 Faithful Participate in Good Friday Via Crucis Procession in Tulum

Participants in the Via Crucis procession walk through the streets of Tulum, Quintana Roo, during Good Friday observances.

Tulum, Quintana Roo — About 300 faithful participated in the traditional Via Crucis procession in downtown Tulum on Good Friday, part of Holy Week religious observances.

The procession began at the Church of the Virgin of Guadalupe, where participants gathered to reenact Jesus’s journey to crucifixion, a significant act in Catholic tradition.

The group then moved through various streets in the city center, depicting each station of the cross. Some participants portrayed biblical characters, while others accompanied the walk with prayers and moments of reflection.

The event took place under cloudy skies, providing more favorable conditions than the region’s typical high temperatures.

Entire families participated along the route, observing the reenactment with respect as they followed each station recalling the events leading to the crucifixion.

The Via Crucis concluded back at the Church of the Virgin of Guadalupe, where liturgical acts and prayers were held.

This annual representation forms part of the religious celebrations held in the municipality each Holy Week, maintaining a tradition passed down through generations in the Catholic community.
