Mayas and Pirates Show Debuts at Bacalar Fort

Performance of Mayas and Pirates musical show at Bacalar Fort in Quintana Roo

Bacalar, Quintana Roo — The musical and theatrical spectacle Mayas and Pirates, which combines dance, Maya pre-Hispanic music, and pirate music, will be presented for the first time at Bacalar Fort on Friday, December 26 and Saturday, December 27, at 8:30 p.m., with free access for the local population, guests, and tourists.

Raúl Andrade Angulo, president of the Association of Hotels of the Center and South of the State, and Alberto Pérez Barrios, producer and creator of the event, reported that with the presentation of the Mayas and Pirates spectacle, which features the participation of the Maya group from Tihosuco “U kiilbal chaak” and actors dressed as pirates, they seek to position Bacalar as a central part of the Mexican Caribbean destination in the southern zone of Quintana Roo, with one of its most exciting historical facets, which has been the incursion of pirates in Bacalar.

Alberto Pérez Barrios stated that Mayas and Pirates is a musical fantasy and in no way is a theatrical narrative focused on a precise story, but rather it is an eminently recreational spectacle, whose objective is that attendees can have fun, imagine, and visualize part of those historical facets with the participation of the musical and artistic groups.

Raúl Andrade Angulo considered that the Mayas and Pirates spectacle, which has been presented in Chetumal for seven consecutive years, is an effort worth supporting and projecting professionally.

The concept has enormous potential as a tourist attraction and has received applause and recognition from the public that has had the opportunity to enjoy it. In the last edition in the state capital, two free-access activities were carried out: the Mayas and Pirates spectacle at the Mega Sculpture, as well as sailboat rides in Chetumal Bay.

They added that for years they have been talking with the producers and authorities to present it at Bacalar Fort, a historic site that lends itself as a setting, always with due care for its facilities.
