Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Museo Maya de Cancún is joining the Noche de Museos program for the first time in 2026, offering evening lectures, exhibitions, music, and guided tours.
The initiative, led by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), aims to strengthen the connection between locals and visitors with museum spaces. From July through November, the museum will open its doors on the last Wednesday of each month.
The first event takes place Wednesday, July 29, at 7:30 p.m. with a conference titled “Maya Navigators: A Secret Route,” presented by archaeologist Guillermo de Anda Alaniz, a researcher at the INAH Quintana Roo Center.
De Anda will discuss how ancient Maya crossed open sea in canoes long before European ships arrived. These voyages established trade routes for goods such as jade, ceramics, cacao, salt, textiles, shells, and ritual objects across the Yucatan Peninsula. The journeys also supported pilgrimages to inland sacred sites.
The museum is located at kilometer 16.5 of the Hotel Zone. Admission is free, but space is limited.
