Cancún, Quintana Roo — A 52-year-old mototaxi driver was shot and killed Tuesday night in Cancún’s Punta Ikal neighborhood in Region 260, authorities reported.
The victim, identified as Raúl García Pérez, a member of the Fesoc union, was attacked around 7:40 p.m. on 20 de Noviembre Avenue. Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots and called emergency services.
Municipal police officers arrived to find a man in his 50s lying beside his red mototaxi, wearing an orange shirt and black pants. Private paramedics confirmed he had no vital signs due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Preliminary reports indicate the mototaxi driver was intercepted by armed suspects on a motorcycle who fired repeatedly at him. After being shot, the victim attempted to flee on foot but was gunned down just meters from his vehicle.
Several of the deceased driver’s colleagues arrived at the scene minutes later after learning of the attack.
Investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office homicide unit processed the scene, collected evidence, and transported the body to the forensic medical service.
The killing follows another recent shooting in Cancún’s Region 227, where a mototaxi driver from the Isla Cun union was killed near Chetumal Avenue.
