Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A person was injured after skidding with their motorcycle upon hitting a deer that suddenly crossed the highway leading to the community of Luis Echeverría, in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco. The accident occurred yesterday afternoon, around 18:00 hours, near the El Misi ranch.

According to the preliminary report, the driver of a black and green Italika motorcycle with Quintana Roo license plates was heading towards the community when a deer unexpectedly entered the roadway. The motorcyclist was unable to brake in time and ended up hitting it, causing them to lose control of the handlebars and skid several meters on the asphalt.

As a result of the fall, the driver suffered various injuries. Paramedics from the Directorate of Firefighters, Rescue, Medical Emergencies, and Disasters arrived at the scene to provide first aid and subsequently transported them to a private clinic, where they would receive specialized medical attention.

The deer died instantly at the site of the impact. Elements of the State Traffic Police attended to carry out the corresponding procedures and verify the conditions of the roadway. The motorcycle was handed over to the injured person’s relatives for safekeeping.

According to the observed characteristics, the deer could be a fawn or a young specimen of the White-tailed Deer, a species common in tropical and warm areas of southern Mexico, recognizable by its reddish-brown or tan coat.

Authorities called on motorists traveling on rural highways to remain attentive to wildlife crossing signs, respect speed limits, and drive with caution, especially during dawn and dusk, times when these animals tend to move more frequently.
