Cancún, Quintana Roo — A woman lost her life and a man sustained serious injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on the morning of Sunday, May 25, in Cancún.

The incident took place at 7:40 a.m. on Bonampak Avenue at Calle 20 in Region 68, when a black Italika motorcycle collided with a Nissan Sentra taxi belonging to the Sindicato Andrés Quintana Roo, with fleet number 1955.

According to preliminary reports, the motorcycle rider was traveling south to north on Bonampak Avenue at excessive speed and failed to maintain a safe distance. Unable to brake in time, the motorcycle rear-ended the taxi, which was moving in the same direction.

The impact ejected both the rider and his female passenger. Witnesses called 911, and within minutes, traffic officers and Red Cross paramedics arrived at the scene. The motorcyclist was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, while the woman showed no vital signs upon medical evaluation.

Authorities cordoned off the area as forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office conducted an investigation, collected evidence, and removed the body. The victim was transported to the Forensic Medical Service for an autopsy.

The taxi driver remained at the scene and provided a statement to authorities. His legal status will be determined in the coming hours if shared responsibility in the accident is established.
