Puerto Morelos, Mexico — A driver lived to tell the tale this morning after the minibus he was driving overturned on Federal Highway 307, near the municipality of Puerto Morelos.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. in the direction heading to Cancún, just 2 kilometers from the main entrance to the city of that municipality.

Data gathered at the scene indicates that, when interviewed by firefighters and Civil Protection personnel, the driver, besides stating he was alive by a miracle, acknowledged that his fatigue and excessive speed caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle traveling at excessive speed and, suddenly, without control, it flipped onto its left side into the brush.

National Guard personnel arrived at the scene, as well as paramedics from the State Health Services, who assessed the driver of the vehicle for nervous shock and some minor injuries.

Traffic on this stretch of highway was affected for approximately one hour, until a tow truck removed the vehicle to take it to an impound lot.
