Mexico City, Mexico — Mexico has issued new warnings to its citizens living in the Middle East, urging them to take extreme precautions following recent military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran and Tehran’s subsequent response.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), through its director of consular protection, Vanessa Calva, and various Mexican embassies in the region, issued alerts to the Mexican community and called for heightened vigilance.
Calva said that “our embassies in Iran and Israel are attentive to possible requests for consular assistance.” She urged nationals in the region to note the contact details of the diplomatic missions and to “follow the recommendations of local authorities.”
The SRE called on nationals in Iran and Israel to stay in touch with the embassies.
According to statistics from the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, 39 Mexicans were registered as residents in Iran and 6,067 in Israel in 2024.
The Mexican Embassy in Iran warned that “Iranian authorities have decided to close airspace until further notice,” and asked Mexicans to “maintain contact with their airline and with the Mexican Embassy.”
In Israel, the Mexican Embassy reported that “Israeli authorities have raised the alert level.” It detailed that starting at 8 a.m., “civil protection guidelines were modified across the country, from full activity level to essential activity level,” and recommended “strictly following official instructions.”
Meanwhile, the Mexican Embassy in Jordan called on the Mexican community to “follow the security instructions of national authorities” and to “seek a safe place inside a building upon hearing anti-aircraft sirens and stay away from windows.” It also warned not to approach “any strange object or underestimate its danger” and to keep phones charged, in addition to staying in contact with family members. The embassy reminded citizens of its emergency phone number and disseminated local government guidelines for potential missile or drone attacks.
The Mexican Embassy in Saudi Arabia said it remains attentive to developments and in permanent communication with authorities in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman. It noted that, except for Bahrain, those countries have not closed their airspace or declared emergency measures so far. It recommended checking passport validity, having residence permits and visas on hand, monitoring official accounts, and contacting airlines in case of planned travel.
Similarly, the Mexican Embassy in Kuwait recommended staying informed through official sources, remaining in safe places, preferably at home and away from military bases, as well as informing family members of one’s location and maintaining constant communication.
The diplomatic missions reiterated that they continue to monitor the evolution of events and made their emergency channels available to the Mexican community to provide assistance if necessary.
