Mexico Evacuates 7,000 Nationals from Middle East Conflict Zone

Mexican Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente announces evacuation plans for nationals in the Middle East.

Mexico City — Approximately 7,000 Mexican nationals, most of them tourists, remain in areas affected by the military conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel, Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente announced.

With air travel currently impossible for stranded citizens to return home, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) has activated land and sea evacuation protocols.

In a video shared on social media, the official explained that most airspace is closed, making it difficult for people to leave by plane.

“Most airspace is closed, so it is difficult for them to return by air at this time, but we have activated evacuation protocols at all our diplomatic missions and are considering land and sea routes, always under safe conditions, which is the most important thing right now,” he said.

So far, no Mexican has been a victim of the bombings carried out in Iran and Israel, as well as in other Arab countries hit by missiles, he assured.

“Amid the complicated situation there, I can inform you that all of them are safe and sound, they are well, and the vast majority are in contact with our diplomatic missions,” he stated.

De la Fuente noted that diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestine, and Qatar are monitoring the situation to assist nationals with protection and consular assistance.

“Our embassies, rest assured, are active, working, and focused on their main priority: the safety of our nationals,” he affirmed.

Mexico’s position on the conflict, he reiterated, is to call for de-escalation and a return to diplomacy as a mechanism to restore peace.

“Our country is a pacifist nation that advocates, based on our constitutional principles, for the peaceful resolution of disputes and the self-determination of peoples. So we favor dialogue and diplomacy to reach agreements that allow hostilities to cease as soon as possible,” he said.
