Merida, Mexico — The Merida City Council has initiated "Cobertón 2025 ¡Un abrigo, una sonrisa!" (A Blanket, A Smile!), a solidarity and community service campaign with the goal of collecting 1,200 blankets to contribute to the protection of the city's most vulnerable individuals.

"Solidarity is a fundamental value in our city, and it is in moments like these when we must demonstrate our humanity and commitment to others," stated Municipal President Cecilia Patrón Laviada.

She called upon the residents of Merida to join this noble cause, which is coordinated by the Municipal DIF (Integrated Family Development System), highlighting the importance of solidarity and compassion in building a more just and equitable community that cares for those who have the least.

The blanket drive began on November 12 and will conclude on December 15. It is directed at businesses, associations, schools, universities, and the general public, who can deliver their donations to collection centers at various points across the city.

The items collected will be destined for people living on the streets, those waiting outside public hospitals, and for individuals in vulnerable situations in shelters and neighborhoods of the city and its commissaries.

The collection centers are located at:

  • The Municipal DIF offices on Calle 59 por 66 in Centro.
  • The Citizen Services offices and the Coordination for Inclusion for People with Disabilities, located on the lower level of the Municipal Palace.
  • The "Renacer" Comprehensive Center for the Fulfillment of Older Adults, on Calle 22 number 275 between 5D and 5F in the Juan Pablo II neighborhood.
