Mérida, Yucatán — The Mérida Cathedral opened its doors this month to receive an authentic replica of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which will remain on display for the veneration of the faithful throughout December, a period of special Guadalupan devotion in the country.
The religious institution reported that the arrival of the replica aims to strengthen spiritual closeness with devotees and offer a space for prayer, reflection, and homage. In the announcement — made through the Cathedral’s official social media — the Catholic community was invited to visit the site and pay tribute to the Virgin Mary, highlighting her “maternal closeness and protection.”
During this month, the Cathedral will organize various faith activities around the image, including moments of prayer and spaces intended for personal contemplation. Although no specific program was detailed, the institution anticipated that liturgical and pastoral dynamics are being prepared to accompany visitors.
The replica will be available in a special area of the temple to facilitate access for the faithful who wish to attend at any time in December, a period when expressions of Guadalupan devotion traditionally increase in Mérida and throughout the country.
With this initiative, the Mérida Cathedral seeks to offer a significant space for spiritual encounter for those who, year after year, keep alive the tradition of coming before the Virgin of Guadalupe.
