Kantunilkin, Quintana Roo — The culture, nature, and gastronomy of rural communities in central Quintana Roo will be promoted at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) 2026. The presence will be realized through the community tourism model integrated into the Maya Kaan destination.
Earlier this year, Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama announced that Maya Kaan community tourism will be promoted by the Maya communities themselves. During FITUR 2026, indigenous representatives will share the cultural and natural diversity that characterizes their communities.
Furthermore, the people responsible for coordinating community tourism projects confirmed their participation in the international fair. By being part of the Maya Kaan destination, they will have direct representation at this important tourism event.
In this way, the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto will be present at FITUR 2026 through various community initiatives. Participants will include Maya Kaan Travel, Community Tours Sian Kaan from Muyil, Kiichpam Kaax-Selva Bonita from Chunhuhub, Xyaat from Señor, and U Belilek Kaxtik Kuxtal from Tihosuco.
Also joining will be Lol-Chuy from Xpichil and the Cueva de las Serpientes Colgantes (Cave of the Hanging Snakes) from Kantemo, located in the municipality of José María Morelos. These projects will showcase experiences based on the jungle, living culture, and Maya identity.
For her part, Felipe Carrillo Puerto Municipal President Mary Hernández announced that this month the Maya Zone will have visibility at FITUR through a gastronomic tour. The presentation will depart from Muyil, considered one of the main gateways to the region.
The mayor acknowledged the support of Governor Mara Lezama in positioning the Maya Kaan Travel brand internationally. She highlighted that FITUR brings together leading companies, international destinations, and decision-makers from the tourism sector.
This push aims to strengthen community tourism and generate direct benefits for Maya communities. Additionally, it promotes a sustainable model that values culture, nature, and local participation.
