Man Shot Multiple Times in Cancún Neighborhood, Condition Critical

Police and emergency responders at the scene of a shooting in Cancún's Haciendas del Caribe neighborhood

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A man was shot multiple times at close range Tuesday night while walking with his partner in Cancún’s Haciendas del Caribe neighborhood, leaving him in critical condition with a guarded prognosis.

The attack occurred around 10 p.m. on Leona Vicario Avenue when two men on foot intercepted the victim as he attempted to cross at Hacienda Chablé Avenue. The assailants fired at least five shots at point-blank range before fleeing to an unknown location.

Emergency services received a 911 call and the C5 Security Complex activated protocols, mobilizing agencies from all three levels of government. Municipal police officers were first to arrive and found the injured man lying in the street.

Red Cross paramedics provided emergency care and transported the victim to General Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

The victim’s partner, who was not injured, told authorities the attack was directed specifically at the man. She described the assailants as two men of medium build with dark complexions.

During their investigation, authorities from the State Prosecutor’s Office did not find spent shell casings at the scene. They have begun reviewing surveillance footage from C5 cameras and nearby businesses to identify the perpetrators.

The motive for the attack remains unknown, though officials say they are exploring all lines of investigation, including possible connections to drug dealing activities.
