Man Gets 40 Years for Child Abuse in Isla Mujeres

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo secured a 40-year prison sentence for Andrés Custodio Colorado, convicted of repeatedly raping a minor in Isla Mujeres. The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Sexual Crimes and Protecting Personal Development presented conclusive evidence leading to the conviction, which also includes a restitution payment of 138,330 pesos for damages.

Systematic Abuse Over Two Years

The crimes occurred in a residence in the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres, where the defendant, exploiting his familial relationship with the victim, sexually assaulted the girl over a span of more than two years, beginning when she was six years old. According to the investigation, the abuse occurred every third day until the victim turned eight.

Disclosure and Initial Dismissal

The case came to light when the girl, then nine years old, confided in her mother about the abuse. However, the mother dismissed the allegations, accused her daughter of lying, and even physically assaulted her. It was only during a visit with her grandparents that the victim found the support to recount her ordeal again.

Grandfather’s Intervention Leads to Justice

After confronting the mother and receiving another denial, the grandfather took decisive action by filing a formal complaint with authorities. A rigorous judicial process followed, including a thorough investigation and an oral trial, culminating in the judge’s ruling.

Landmark Sentence

The 40-year sentence stands as one of the harshest penalties for such crimes in the region, marking a significant step in combating child sexual violence. The case underscores Quintana Roo’s commitment to protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable.
