Tulum, Quintana Roo — A man was shot dead early Thursday just steps from Tulum’s municipal palace, authorities reported.
Residents and passersby alerted police after hearing multiple gunshots in the downtown area around dawn. Officers arrived to find the victim lying on the street beside the municipal government building.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities have not released his identity and reported no arrests in connection with the killing.
Investigators cordoned off the area for forensic work and launched an investigation into the homicide.
The incident adds to nearly ten murders recorded in Tulum so far this year, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the popular tourist destination.
