Father arrested for raping daughter in Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Authorities have detained a 54-year-old man identified as Juan Carlos “N” for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter, whom he had forced into a romantic relationship. The arrest followed a report filed by the victim’s secondary school teacher after the minor disclosed the abuse during an emotional support class.

Years of Abuse Revealed

According to Raciel López Salazar, head of the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the abuse began when the girl was 11 years old. The victim had been placed in her father’s custody at age five by her mother, who believed the child would be better cared for with him while she pursued a new relationship.

López Salazar stated that the abuse escalated over time. When the girl turned 12, her father offered to buy her a birthday cake but sexually assaulted her immediately afterward, then proceeded with the celebration. By age 14, he had coerced her into a full-fledged romantic partnership, using fear and isolation to control her. The victim reportedly complied with his demands, including the use of sexual toys, as she had no other family support.

Teacher’s Intervention Leads to Arrest

The case came to light when the minor confided in her secondary school teacher during a socioemotional class. The educator, recognizing the severity of the situation, alerted authorities, prompting an arrest warrant.

Quintana Roo currently ranks ninth nationally in reported rape cases and leads in emergency calls related to intimate partner violence, with 9,729 incidents recorded—seven times the national average.

Authorities continue to investigate while urging vigilance and reporting of such crimes.
