Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A serious vehicle collision on Playa del Carmen Boulevard left three people injured, two with serious injuries, and caused extensive damage to both vehicles involved.
The crash occurred near the “Lázaro Cárdenas del Río” taxi union headquarters. Preliminary reports indicate the driver of a blue Volkswagen Jetta was allegedly driving under the influence and speeding on the busy roadway.
According to initial information, the Jetta was traveling in the right lane while a gray Mitsubishi pickup truck was in the left lane. The Jetta driver reportedly rear-ended the pickup’s back tire, causing both drivers to lose control of their vehicles.
After the impact, the Mitsubishi pickup was propelled toward the central median, where it knocked down a tree before overturning and landing on its roof in the middle of the road.
The Jetta also left the roadway and crashed into the shoulder, where it struck an advertising structure beside the highway.
The collision prompted a major emergency response. Paramedics from the GRUM organization arrived at the scene to provide medical attention to occupants of both vehicles and performed rescue maneuvers to extract the injured.
Medical evaluation revealed two people sustained serious injuries while a third suffered minor wounds. The injured received pre-hospital care at the scene before being transported to a hospital for further treatment.
Municipal traffic officers also arrived at the location to secure the area, coordinate vehicle traffic, and conduct the necessary investigation to determine responsibility for the crash.
The accident disrupted traffic flow for several minutes while emergency personnel attended to the injured and removed the damaged vehicles from the roadway.
