The Mayan Train ticketing system has announced that tickets are now available for travel from Playa del Carmen to Mérida. This new route eliminates the need for lengthy stopovers at Cancún airport.

The train departs from Playa del Carmen once daily at 5:30 p.m. and stops at seven stations. These include popular tourist destinations in Yucatán such as Izamal, Valladolid, and Chichén Itzá. The journey to Mérida takes approximately five hours and one minute.

Ticket prices vary based on the chosen class. The International Premier tickets cost 1,879.50 pesos, National Premier tickets are 1,409.5 pesos, and the lowest priced tickets, for the special tourist category, are 441.50 pesos.

A return journey from Mérida to Playa del Carmen is also available, with a daily departure at 7:00 a.m. However, the Mayan Train service from Playa del Carmen does not currently offer direct routes to Palenque or Campeche. Passengers wishing to travel to these destinations must first reach Cancún Airport and wait for a departure the following day at 9:30 a.m.

The Mayan Train is designed for long-distance travel and features passenger cabins that can be converted into beds for overnight journeys. Some cabins also offer private bathrooms and showers. Additional amenities include onboard coffee shops.

A new model of the Mayan Train, featuring seven carriages, is expected to be ready in September. This version of the train will extend the service to Cancún.
