Chetumal, January 19. In the community of Laguna Guerrero, in the municipality of Othon P. Blanco, a project led by Dr. Dolores Lopez is demonstrating that innovation also emerges in the countryside and on a small scale. Through a coconut mill, waste such as husk and shell, which previously accumulated unused, are now being transformed into organic fertilizer.
This process allows coconut waste to return to the earth as natural fertilizer, without the use of chemicals that damage the soil. The result is a fertilizer that strengthens crops and improves soil quality, while reducing pollution generated by burning or abandoning these agricultural residues.
The mill solves an environmental problem and promotes a different form of production in the rural area. It is a clear example of a circular economy, where everything is utilized and nothing is wasted, benefiting both the producer and the natural environment and the community.
This type of initiative shows that sustainable development does not always require large investments, but rather determination and commitment to the place where one lives. Dr. Dolores Lopez’s project has become an example that inspires other producers to seek clean and responsible alternatives to care for the land and strengthen the local economy.
