Caribbean Cartel Leaders Sentenced for Murder

Cancún, Mexico — Judicial authorities have issued sentences against Héctor Elías Flores Acebes, alias "El Pantera," and his chief of hitmen, Juan Carlos Álvarez Cruz, known as "El Teporrón," for their participation in the aggravated homicide of a young man identified as Diego Alejandro.

According to investigations by the State Attorney General's Office, the victim was deprived of his liberty in a Cancún bar and subsequently transported to a safe house in the ejido Alfredo V. Bonfil. At that location, the young man was tortured and asphyxiated, before being abandoned without life in the Region 531.

The detention of both criminals was carried out during an operation in which an existing arrest warrant against "El Teporrón," identified as the material author of the murder, was also served. Authorities identify "El Pantera" as one of the principal generators of violence in the municipality of Benito Juárez, with links to activities such as extortion, forced disappearance, and drug dealing.

While this conviction represents an important advance in the fight against criminality, the Attorney General's Office maintains other investigation files related to his group open.

With this judicial resolution, the authorities of Quintana Roo have dealt a significant blow to the structure of the Sinaloa Cartel operating in the northern zone of the state, thereby reinforcing efforts to contain organized crime in the Mexican Caribbean.
