TULUM — The company Mundo Maya has begun laying off workers assigned to the hotel and the maintenance of Jaguar Park. At least five terminations have been confirmed so far, although internal sources warn that the actual number could exceed 40 in the coming weeks.

According to testimonies from those affected, the decision is related to the tourism crisis stemming from the privatization of beaches within the Jaguar Park zone, coupled with reports of extortion of tourists by security organizations and rising service fees in Tulum.

The laid-off workers indicated that family members of Army personnel hold management positions, creating an atmosphere of protection for the park's administration. They even accused the managers of "laughing at the news reports" and feeling untouchable in the face of public complaints.

In response to this situation, several former employees are preparing lawsuits for unjustified dismissal, arguing they were not notified in advance and their labor rights were not respected. The case could escalate to labor tribunals and become a new focal point for criticism of the operation of Jaguar Park, which has been criticized since its opening for restricting access to tourist spaces that were previously public.
