Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Isla Mujeres has successfully concluded its "Your Identity Is Your Right" initiative, distributing 200 free updated birth certificates to local children as part of activities commemorating Children’s Month.
The final batch of 50 certificates was delivered during a special event held in the city council chambers under the slogan "Children Must Know Their Identity." Parents and guardians attended the ceremony, which emphasized the importance of securing legal identity from an early age.
Collaboration Ensures Access to Documentation
The program was made possible through coordination between the municipal government, the Quintana Roo State Secretariat of Government, and the General Directorate of the Civil Registry. A total of 200 waived forms were provided, allowing families to obtain the documents at no cost.
Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde underscored the significance of guaranteeing legal certainty for children, stating, "Actions like these strengthen ties between institutions and families while promoting inclusion from an early age."
With this initiative, Isla Mujeres reinforces its commitment to social justice and equal access to fundamental rights, particularly for vulnerable populations.
