On Wednesday, October 2nd, a significant milestone was achieved in Isla Mujeres, with the birth of the region's first buffalo calf. The female calf marks a significant step forward for livestock development in the area.

Rosa Agustina Zapata, President of the Isla Mujeres Livestock Association, expressed her excitement over the birth. "This is an achievement we have been anticipating since the inception of this project in January," she said.

Earlier this year, the association received a herd of 20 female and two male buffalos from the Mexican Association of Buffalo Breeders. "Since their arrival, we have been dedicated to raising this species, which offers numerous benefits, both economically and nutritionally, compared to traditional bovine cattle," Zapata explained.

Currently, ten of the female buffalos are pregnant, with more calves expected to be born by December. Zapata also emphasized the benefits of buffalo farming, noting it as a more affordable alternative. Additionally, she pointed out that buffalo products have superior nutritional properties.
