Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — As the first weekend of the summer vacation season approaches, the beaches of Isla Mujeres are clean, orderly, and free of sargassum. Municipal President Atenea Gómez confirmed that the beaches are ready to welcome thousands of vacationers who are already enjoying the sun, sea, and hospitality for which the municipality is known.

Following an atypical influx of sargassum in recent days, Gómez emphasized that authorities acted swiftly and in solidarity with local residents, who joined forces to support the workers of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) in Isla Mujeres.

Coordinated Efforts Yield Results

Thanks to this joint effort, the beaches now wake up free of sargassum, ensuring a better experience for visitors. In the area known as El Riito, for example, nearly 100 tons of sargassum were removed, leaving the shoreline completely clean.

Playa Centro and Playa Norte, both internationally recognized with Blue Flag and Playa Platino distinctions, remain in optimal condition—clean and free of sargassum—underscoring the consistent and dedicated work of Zofemat Isla Mujeres personnel.

Gómez noted that sargassum accumulation “does not occur every day or on all beaches,” adding that constant monitoring allows for immediate and effective responses.

The municipal government continues to prioritize beach maintenance to ensure a welcoming environment for tourists throughout the summer season.
