Interpol Red Notice for Model’s Femicide in Mexico

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The case of Argentine model Agostina Jalabert has taken a decisive turn after Interpol issued a Red Notice to locate and detain Juan Manuel Reverter, 37, the victim’s ex-partner and alleged perpetrator of the femicide that occurred in February 2023 in this tourist destination.

Agostina was found dead on February 18, 2023, inside an apartment in Playa del Carmen. Initially, authorities treated the incident as a suicide; however, with the progress of new investigations and specialized forensic analysis, that version was discarded and the case reclassified as a violent crime allegedly staged.

The current line of investigation indicates that the young woman was beaten in various parts of her body and subsequently asphyxiated, after which the scene was manipulated using a belt to simulate that she had taken her own life in the bathroom of the residence.

A key factor in clarifying what happened was the intervention of Candela Jalabert, the victim’s sister, who from the first moment questioned the official version. That morning, after noticing that access to the apartment was blocked and receiving reports of disturbances and police presence during the early hours, she managed to enter the property, where she found Agostina lifeless, despite Reverter’s claims that he was with her.

The model’s family pushed for investigations with independent experts until the case was officially recognized as femicide, which allowed them to request an arrest warrant against the main suspect. Authorities confirmed that Reverter left Argentina in August 2024, before the arrest warrant was issued, and his current whereabouts are unknown, though it is presumed he could be in some country in the Americas. With the Red Notice active, any Interpol member country is authorized to detain him and hand him over to justice.
