Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Quintana Roo announced it will host its first Oral Health Fair from March 23 to 27, 2026, offering free preventive and treatment services to promote dental care across the population.
The event, titled “Healthy Smiles, Healthy Future,” will take place at all family medicine units with dental services throughout the state. Officials said the fair aims to improve oral health for people of all ages, with special emphasis on children, to foster early dental care habits and prevent diseases.
Francisco del Río Pacheco, the state IMSS dental coordinator, said poor oral hygiene can lead to various conditions including cavities, tooth loss, gingivitis, chronic bad breath, and infections where mouth bacteria enter the bloodstream and cause problems in other organs like the heart or lungs.
Participating units will provide care from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., focusing on prevention, timely diagnosis, and promoting oral hygiene habits. Del Río Pacheco emphasized that maintaining proper brushing, flossing, and regular dental checkups allows for early detection of issues.
He also noted that oral health is linked to systemic diseases like diabetes, where periodontal disease can worsen blood glucose control. Chronic mouth inflammation may increase cardiovascular disease risk, and periodontal issues can raise the likelihood of chronic kidney disease.
The IMSS coordinator reiterated the invitation for all residents to take advantage of these preventive measures, which he said contribute to strengthening overall health and improving quality of life for Quintana Roo families.
