Holbox. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa laid the first stone to begin construction of the Police and Fire Base of Holbox, a strategic infrastructure that will strengthen the operational capacity of security and emergency response bodies on this island.
Accompanied by the municipal president of Lázaro Cárdenas, Nivardo Mena Villanueva, the head of the Executive stated: “Today we come to fulfill our promise to Holbox, we come to tell you, with actions, that this island matters, that its people matter, that their peace of mind matters.”
The work corresponds to the first stage of the project, which includes the construction of the ground floor of the Police and Fire Base, with a total investment of 7 million 500 thousand pesos, financed with state resources, as part of the state government’s commitment to guarantee safe environments for the population and for those who visit the state, as established in the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo.
“This is a humanist government with a feminist heart, a government that listens, understands, and attends, that does not govern from the desk, but by walking the territory and responding to the real needs of the people,” added Mara Lezama in the presence of the Secretary of Citizen Security, Julio César Gómez Torres; Brigadier General DEM Fidel Mondragón Rivero, commander of the 34th Military Zone; and Admiral Guadalupe Juan José Bernal Méndez, commander of the V Naval Region.
During the event, the Governor highlighted that Holbox is a living, insular community, with growth, work, and tourism, but also with challenges. For many years it lacked formal infrastructure for emergency response and public safety. That absence generated uncertainty and vulnerability.
Mara Lezama specified that this first stage has a state investment of 7 million 500 thousand pesos, aimed at improving response times, strengthening surveillance, and reducing the perception of insecurity. “It is an investment that translates into social peace and better living conditions. This work will allow for a more timely, efficient, and coordinated response to risk situations, crimes, and fires, contributing to the protection of Holbox families, as well as strengthening its tourist vocation and its sustainable development,” she cited.
Before proceeding with the laying of the first stone, the Governor assured that when there are dignified facilities, there are better conditions for those who care for the community, but, above all, there is greater trust for families and greater certainty of social justice, because social justice also means that the state is present where it was not before. That islands have the same rights as any other community. That no one is left behind.
