Quintana Roo, Mexico — The island of Holbox, located in Quintana Roo, closed 2025 with exceptional tourism results, achieving 100% hotel occupancy during December. The destination continues to strengthen its international image with clear promotion plans for 2026.

The president of the Holbox Hotel Association, Christian Stenta, highlighted that last year was a record, thanks to a marketing strategy focused on high-quality tourism. Participation in the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2026 in Madrid will be key to attracting European visitors and consolidating its leadership in the Mexican Caribbean.

Holbox is betting on diversifying its offerings, highlighting inclusive and safe experiences for the LGBTIQ+ community, which already recognizes it internationally as a destination certified as Queer Destination. This distinction reinforces its commitment to authentic inclusion and responsible tourism.

The fair in Madrid will allow for the promotion of boutique hotels, wellness, nature, and authenticity, differentiators compared to other Caribbean destinations. It is estimated that in January occupancy will reach at least 80%, with positive trends for subsequent months. This is complemented by the upcoming World Cup, which will attract travelers arriving in Cancún and seeking getaways to Holbox.

This favorable outlook is supported by growing interest in sustainable tourism and environmental preservation, elements that Holbox maintains as priorities. The international strategy and certification as an inclusive destination position Holbox not only as a vacation destination but as a reference for responsible and diverse tourism in the region.

The tourism development in Holbox reflects a balance between economic growth and ecological respect, vital to maintaining its appeal and long-term sustainability. The island seeks to consolidate itself in European markets, attract more international visitors, and strengthen its brand in the global market.

The trend is optimistic and projects a year 2026 with more investment, recognition, and unique experiences that differentiate Holbox in the competitive tourism landscape of the Mexican Caribbean.
