Highway 307 Repairs Near Completion After Maya Train Construction Damage

Construction workers repairing a section of Highway 307 in Quintana Roo, Mexico

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Repairs to Highway 307, the federal road connecting Cancún and Chetumal, are 97% complete, with only signage installation remaining to finish the project. The Mexican Army (SEDENA) carried out the rehabilitation work after the highway sustained significant damage during construction of the Maya Train.

Rafael Lara Díaz, Quintana Roo’s Secretary of Public Works, announced the progress, stating that the repairs are practically finished. “All that’s left is horizontal and vertical signage,” Lara Díaz said. “The Mexican Army has completed the work; only the line markings and signs remain.”

The highway suffered extensive damage from heavy construction vehicles, creating large potholes that posed dangers to motorists and reportedly caused several fatalities. Lara Díaz emphasized the importance of the rehabilitation, noting that hundreds of drivers use the route daily for tourism, medical appointments, family visits, and work. He said the repairs will improve traffic conditions and enhance safety.

The Secretary of Infrastructure is now handling the final stretch from Bacalar to Chetumal, while the Mexican Army has completed its portion of the work.
