High-Speed Crash in Puerto Aventuras Leaves 15 Injured, One Trapped

Emergency responders work at the scene of a crash in Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo

Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — A high-speed rear-end collision between an internet company truck and a passenger van on Federal Highway 307 left 15 people injured Sunday afternoon, with one passenger trapped in the wreckage requiring emergency rescue.

The crash occurred near Puerto Aventuras when a GigNet company Nissan Frontier truck traveling at high speed struck a stationary passenger van from the Playa del Carmen-Felipe Carrillo Puerto route. The van, with route number 194, was stopped at an official bus stop under a pedestrian bridge when it was violently struck and pushed several meters forward.

The impact was so severe that a female passenger became trapped between the twisted metal of the van’s rear seats. Firefighters from the area had to use hydraulic rescue tools, known as “jaws of life,” to perform an emergency extraction.

Medical personnel treated 15 people at the scene: two were transported in critical condition (code red), three with serious injuries (yellow), and ten others with bruises and nervous shock who received on-site evaluation.

The GigNet truck ended up on the sidewalk after the collision, and its driver also required hospital transport.

Due to rescue operations and the severity of the crash, Playa del Carmen Public Security Department officers closed northbound traffic, diverting vehicles to alternate routes. Traffic chaos persisted for over an hour as multiple emergency agencies, including Red Cross and private ambulances, evacuated all injured people to nearby medical centers.

National Guard Highway Division agents secured both vehicles and sent them to an impound lot. The case has been referred to appropriate authorities for determining responsibility.
