Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A high school student who was struck by a bus last Saturday has lost vision in his left eye, with his family accusing medical staff of alleged negligence due to inadequate care received at the Mexican Social Security Institute's (IMSS) General Hospital Zone No. 18.

The accident occurred last Saturday when the young man was riding a motorcycle and was hit by a bus whose driver fled the scene. The impact left the motorcyclist with an open fracture and a severe head injury.

After being transferred to the hospital, the family asserts that a lack of timely care and improper medical management led to the irreversible loss of the eye. The victim's relatives have filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office due to a lack of response and solutions from both the IMSS and the responsible bus company.

Furthermore, they have called on the public to join a sit-in protest they will hold outside the offices of the bus company LIPU, aiming to demand justice and that responsibility for the incident be acknowledged.
