Heavy rainfall has caused significant flooding in the Maya area of Quintana Roo. The downpour, which occurred on Tuesday, led to waterlogged streets and fallen trees in Chetumal.
Tuesday morning saw the first substantial rainfall of June in the Maya area of Quintana Roo. The deluge was so severe that it flooded the streets in the downtown area. However, for local producers like Don Miguel Colli, the rainfall was not sufficient. According to him, the rain needs to be torrential to adequately moisten the ground for planting, given the soil's current drought-affected state.
The rain began shortly after 10 in the morning. Despite the overcast skies, many people were out on the streets working or running errands when the rain started. It intensified for about 15 minutes before subsiding to a drizzle. So far, the primary impact of the rain has been the flooding it has caused.
As the water receded in the downtown area, some streets around the central park were observed to be flooded. Looking ahead, residents are keen to know the weather forecast for the Yucatan Peninsula from June 10-16.
