Gunmen Shoot Up BBVA Bank Branch in Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo

Shattered glass and bullet holes in the facade of a BBVA bank branch in Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo

Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — Suspected gunmen opened fire on a BBVA bank branch in the Puerto Aventuras delegation, shattering the building’s windows and triggering an investigation by Quintana Roo state prosecutors.

Municipal authorities dispatched police officers to the scene after receiving reports of the shooting. Bank staff arriving at work discovered the damage to the branch, including one of its main windows, which bore three bullet holes.

Officers from the Playa del Carmen Public Security Department (SSC) reached the scene to investigate and immediately notified the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office, which is handling the case.

According to accounts from the area, bank employees declined to give municipal police details about the incident, though the bullet impacts made clear that a criminal attack had taken place.

During the inspection, officers noted that the impact on the glass appeared to have come from inside the building and traveled outward, rather than from the street. State prosecutor’s agents did not arrive at the scene while SSC officers carried out their inspection.

Residents of the surrounding area, alarmed by the gunfire, called for urgent help.

No injuries have been reported. Police have not issued any official report on the attack, and no arrests have been announced.
