Mexico City, Mexico — Grupo Posadas, a leading Mexican hospitality company, is advancing its mission to "make this world a better place to travel" through strategic investments, sustainability initiatives, and an expanding portfolio of hotels. Enrique Calderón, the company’s Vice President of Operations, outlined these efforts in an interview with La Razón, emphasizing alignment with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.
Expansion and Investment Strategy
Grupo Posadas currently operates 200 hotels across more than 60 destinations, primarily in Mexico, with two international properties: Live Aqua Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and the upcoming Fiesta Americana Funic, a new concept blending entertainment and luxury. The company plans to open six additional hotels in 2025, part of a broader pipeline of 30 properties slated to launch within the next 30 months.
Calderón noted that these expansions are backed by third-party investors, with Grupo Posadas serving as the operator. The total investment for 2025 is estimated at 17 billion pesos (approximately $850 million). Upon completion, the new properties will add 34,998 rooms to the company’s portfolio, which already exceeds 30,000 rooms.
Guest Experiences and Local Integration
Post-pandemic travel trends have shifted toward immersive experiences, Calderón explained. Grupo Posadas caters to this demand by integrating local culture, gastronomy, and attractions into its properties. For example, the Grand Fiesta Americana Oaxaca showcases Oaxacan architecture and cuisine, while the Fiesta Inn and One hotels in the same city offer tailored experiences at different price points.
The company’s diverse portfolio includes 14 hotel brands, with 86% located in urban destinations and 14% in beachfront areas. Calderón highlighted the importance of balancing luxury with accessibility, ensuring travelers can engage with local culture regardless of their budget.
Sustainability Commitments
Grupo Posadas has prioritized ESG initiatives, holding certifications such as Green Key for environmental stewardship. Key efforts include:
- Energy Efficiency: Piloting solar cell programs and negotiating with a cogeneration plant to supply clean energy to 70 hotels.
- Waste Reduction: Minimizing plastic bottle usage, controlling food waste, and partnering with food banks.
- Local Sourcing: Supporting regional artisans, such as Chiapas-based weavers who produce keycard bracelets for Cancún properties.
- Water Management: Implementing advanced wastewater treatment systems.
Calderón stressed that sustainability is not just a corporate mandate but a community responsibility. "Mexico’s tourism appeal depends on preserving its natural and cultural assets," he said.
Performance and Future Outlook
In the first quarter of 2025, Grupo Posadas achieved a customer recommendation score of 62.7 points—18.7 points above the global industry average. The company is also investing 610 million pesos to renovate its Acapulco property, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining high standards amid growth.
Calderón reiterated Grupo Posadas’ core philosophy: "Our purpose is to make travel transformative—for guests, destinations, and the planet."
